Immerse yourself in one of the most streamed classical works of the 21st century: Max Richter’s breathtaking recomposition of Vivaldi’s The Four Seasons, which has captivated hundreds of millions of listeners worldwide. The program also features the hauntingly beautiful “On the Nature of Daylight”—iconic from films such as Arrival and Shutter Island—alongside other luminous Richter scores. Violin soloist Vanessa Moss joins Music Director Nikolas Caoile on keyboard for an evening of cinematic, deeply emotional contemporary classical music that feels both intimate and expansive.

Nik’s Notes

Some of my favorite movies in the last 15 years included Jiro Dreams of Sushi (2011), Arrival (2016), and Shutter Island (2010). The common thread? Music by Max Richter. In particular, the song “On the Nature of Daylight”. Its construction is very simple and straightforward, but emotionally, it exudes a deep sentimentalism and melancholy. Richter’s postminimalism style has found a place both on the concert hall stage and on the silver screen and I can’t get enough of it. His modern take on Vivaldi’s The Four Seasons is breath-taking. WVSO is honored to welcome Vanessa Moss (concertmaster for Mid-Columbia Symphony, Walla Walla Symphony). I am also happy to perform with the WVSO on a Nord Grand 2 keyboard.
