Wenatchee World: Wenatchee Valley Symphony Orchestra celebrates 80th with season for discovery

The Wenatchee Valley Symphony Orchestra’s 80th season has no single flavor.

Instead, Artistic Director and Conductor Nikolas Caoile is reaching for something closer to a tasting menu: Celtic folk and classical music, medieval chants and contemporary composers, Russian Romanticism and 21st-century soundscapes.

The result is a season that moves across musical borders while keeping one thing constant: the orchestra itself.

“There are music directors out there that think of programming as trying to find a single thread from beginning to end,” Caoile said. “And that's not the kind of music director that I am.”

Instead, he looks for contrasts, different “tastes and sounds and textures and regions and eras,” as he puts it, that can sit beside one another.
